A Clinical Study of Travogen Therapy in Superficial Fungal Diseases



Abstract
Isoconazole nitrate is one of the broad spectrum antifungal agents recently developed. from imidazole derivatives.
Authors performed clinical and mycological study to evaluate the therapeutic effect of isoconazole nitrate in superficial fungal diseases.
One hundred and twenty-six cases of superficial fungal infections including. tinea versicolor were studied during 6 months from April to September, 1985.
All patients had been treated with Travogen cream .(l% Isoconazole nitrate) twice a may for four weeks, and evaluated weekly on clinical symptoms and signs and KOH smears
The results were as follows;
1. Subjective symptoms observed were itching (46.0%), drying (25. 4511,), burning (21.4"0),. irritation (11.1%). Objective signs observed were erythema (79.400), desquamation (73.8¢¥0), hyperkeratosis (53.2%), and papules (40.5%). Nearly all of those disappeared within 3 weeks treatment.
2. On KOH examination, 49.2% and 38.1% of the patients became negative after 2 weeks and 4 weeks treatment respectively, means total 87.300 negative conversion rate.
3. After 4 week treatment, improvements were noted as follows: tinea pedis (9200), ti ea manum (7500), tinea cruris (1000%), tinea corporis (91.7%),tinea capitis (10000), and ti ea versicolor (100%). Total improvement rate was 95.2%.
4. No serious side effects were noted except one case of mild burning and irritation on the facial area.
